Changes to US Entry Requirements
On 3 June 2008 the US government announced details of a new online system known as ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) that is part of the Visa Waiver Programme that covers travel from various countries including New Zealand. In summary:
- The system requires travellers to the US to register online at least 72 hours prior to their departure for the US
- The requirement commenced on 12 January 2009
Full details of the system including FAQ's that answer most issues can be found on the US Department of Homeland Security's website at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov - we recommend that you read this.

Unpaid Fines Could Stop You From Travelling Overseas
If you owe reparation, or your fines are overdue, you could be stopped from arriving or departing at New Zealand International airports. This is because legislation allows records of unpaid fines to be matched with customs and immigration information.
To avoid disruption at the airport, pay your fines now and you'll be free to travel. If you are going overseas within the next 48 hours simply call 0800 729 677 and pay by credit card.
